Lane Moss was destined to be a drummer at a young age. Growing up in a musical household, his father was a renowned bass singer and his mother a piano player. While exposed to various musical acts in that environment, Lane was always fascinated with drums and started playing at age 8. While being influenced early by Peter Criss of Kiss (who wasn't) and John Bonhan (Led Zeppelin), perhaps his biggest influence is Stewart Copeland (The Police). After playing in a variety of bands covering pop acts such as Loverboy and The Police, to hair metal bands like Ratt and Motely Crue, Lane attended Auburn University where he formed the band Echo Boom. Playing primarily the fraternity circuit, that band covered a wide variety of music, including The Red Hot Chili Peppers and R.E.M., and opened for acts such as the Connells. Lane moved to Raleigh in 1994, where he has played in bands such as Plaid Circle, Grooveyard, and also Sugar Daddy with Warren Sumner. The 80s is the decade that most influenced Lane as both drummer and a performer. While the mullet may be long gone, Lane has never lost his enthusiasm for the music of that decade.
